NLL Draft Needs: Washington Stealth

Last season the Washington Stealth didn’t have a first round draft pick. This season they get the 8th overall pick after playing in the NLL Championship, losing to the Knighthawks.

The Stealth probably need a lefty shooter more than anything. They have Lewis Ratcliff, who is not playing in Canada all summer due to a suspension. After that they are left with Cliff Smith, Dean Hill and Mitch Jones. Their right side has Rhys Duch, Athan Iannnucci and Brett Bucktooth.

With that #8 pick they probably will need to target a left handed shooter. Of course the top lefty in the draft is Logan Schuss but unless they trade up the Stealth won’t have a shot at him.

This might mean Casey Jackson could sneak into the top round or Dylan Goddard who has been seen by lacrosse insiders as a sleeper pick. Tor Reinholdt is also a lefty shooter and if he ever happened to drop down he’d be a no brainer.

They draft again at #17. They might try for goaltender Blake Duncan here for a more sure backup for Tyler Richards. Matt Roik is a free agent and it’s hard to see the Stealth retaining him for next season.

They draft again at #26, where at this point you go for the best available player. Will defenders Tucker Durkin or Jordan Houtby be here for them to shore up their D?

The Stealth have more picks this season than last season to build up their club. Remember, next season Drew Snider should be healthy enough to play too. Do we seem an influx of youth in Washington?
