MLL Draft Recap: Rochester Rattlers

The Rochester Rattlers looked to fill some holes in their offence in last week’s MLL Collegiate draft and they certainly found some answers.  The Rattlers held the second overall pick in 2014 and selected Duke Blue Devil Jordan Wolf.  The top attackman in this year’s draft will fill the whole left by former Duke alumni Ned Crotty.  Wolfe led the Blue Devils to a 2013 NCAA Championship last spring after posting outstanding numbers with 57 goals and 28 assists for 85 points.

The Rattlers selected four attackman, three midfield and two defenseman in this year’s draft. Rochester made it a family affair by selecting standout Miles Thompson 20th overall and fellow attackman Ty Thompson 28th overall.  The brothers combined for a total of 141 points last season for U of Albany.

Virginia’s Mark Cockerton rounded out the rest of the attackman selected by the Rattlers. The Oshawa, ON native was selected 56th overall after having a breakthrough season for the Cavaliers scoring a career high 49 goals in 14 games last year.

The remaining draft picks for the Rattlers are as follows:

26th Overall – John Locascio – Midfield – Villanova

32nd Overall – Dan Eipp – Midfield – Harvard

44th Overall – Tom Freshour – Defense -Cornell

52nd Overall – Andrew Wagner -Defense –Mercyhurst

60th Overall – Tom Lacrosse – Midfield – Penn State

Look for Jordan Wolf to make an immediate impact on attack in 2014 while Miles Thompson will most likely have an edge over his brother Ty to earn a spot in the lineup.  Meanwhile, Eipp, Locasio and Lacrosse will all battle for limited midfield spots and Wagner and Freshour will be in tough to crack the line up due to the outstanding defense the Rattlers already have in place with the likes of Joel White.
