MLL In the NCAA: Holman Leads Tar Heels

Senior – Marcus Holman – Attack– Ohio Machine – North Carolina Tar Heels

The Ohio Machine are definitely keeping a close eye on their 12th overall pick from the 2013 Collegiate draft.  Holman led his Tar Heels (12-3) to an ACC title this past weekend and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

On Sunday, Marcus Holman tallied five assists in a 16-13 win over the Virginia Cavaliers (7-8) to capture the ACC Title.  With his five assists, Holman became North Carolina’s all time leading scorer, surpassing Bruce Ledwith’s point total of 205, set 40 years ago.  Holman now has 207 points in his four years as a Tar Heel.  

In the ACC semi final game on Friday night, the Tar Heels defeated Duke (11-5) by a score of 18-17.  Holman scored four goals and two assists in the victory.  

Through 14 games this season, he has 36 goals and 33 assists for 69 points.  Holman is currently fourth among all NCAA players this season in scoring.

Holman and the Tar Heels will be competing in the NCAA Tournament on the weekend of May 11-12 in first round action.

Senior – Josh Hawkins –Midfield – Hamilton Nationals – Loyola Greyhounds

Loyola Greyhound (11-3) and Hamilton Nationals fifth overall pick registered one goal and one assist in an 8-4 win over Johns Hopkins (8-5) on Sunday.  Hawkins also picked up three groundballs and caused one turnover.

In 2013,Hawkins is ninth in scoring for the Greyhounds, playing seven games, scoring 10 goals and two assists, while also registering 21 groundballs.

The Greyhounds and Hawkins take on Ohio State (10-3) in the semi finals of ECAC championship on May 2nd at 8 pm in Geneva, NY.

Senior – JoJo Marasco – Midfield – New York Lizards – Syracuse Orange

Syracuse’s (11-3) team co-captain JoJo Marasco is having an outstanding season for the Orange scoring a career high 47 points (17G, 30A) in 14 games.  He is leading the Orange in scoring and is tied for 29th in points per game in the NCAA with a 3.54 average.  

The 37th overall (5th round) pick in 2013 scored one goal for the Orange in a 10-4 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-3) on Saturday in the annual Big City Classic in East Rutherford, NJ.

Syracuse faces Notre Dame once again in the Big East Championship semi finals on May 2nd at 4:30 pm.

Senior Peter Baum – Attack – Ohio Machine – Colgate Raiders

The Ohio Machine’s first overall pick in the 2013 Collegiate draft; Peter Baum collected two assists in a 15-7 loss to Lehigh (11-4) in the semi finals of the Patriot League tournament.  He was held scoreless for only the fourth time in 14 games this season.

In 2013, the Colgate (8-6) starting attackman is leading the Raiders in scoring with 33 goals and 48 points.  He has a .287% shooting percentage this season.  

Baum will be playing his last ever game with the Raiders in Colgate’s final game of the season on May 4th when they travel to College Park, MD to take on the Maryland Terps (9-3).
