In a weekend which saw some questions being answered (who’s in the playoffs), many things are yet to be decided (the two through four seeds in the playoffs). Here are the three starts from another exciting weekend of action.
3) Max Seibald (Boston) – GWG in overtime
Veteran Max Seibald had just one goal on Thursday at Chesapeake, but that goal officially clinched a playoff berth for the Cannons. It would have taken a lot for Boston to miss the playoffs, but Seibald erased any doubt by scoring 5:16 into the extra session. The Cornell alum has enjoyed a strong season, posting 26 points out of the midfield after coming over from the New York Lizards for Paul Rabil.
2) Greg Puskuldjian (Ohio) – 16-of-26 faceoffs
Rookie faceoff specialist Greg Puskuldjian posted a strong stat line against the first-place New York Lizards, but who he faced makes his performance even more impressive. On the other side was all-world faceoff man Greg Gurenlian who’s in the midst of a historic season, entering the day winning nearly 80 percent of his draws with over 160 groundballs. However, on Saturday, Gurenlian won just 10-of-26 against Puskuldjian with just three groundballs. Gurenlian actually got off to a fast start, but Puskuldjian responded, doing a good job of battling early on before getting into a rhythm and helping his Ohio Machine to a big 14-9 win to remain in a second-place tie in the league standings. Ohio, Rochester and Boston are all 8-5 heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
1) Chris and Matt Bocklet (Denver) – 18 combined points (12 goals, six assists)
Chris and Matt Bocklet both broke out for incredible performances in Sunday’s 20-14 win over Florida, so it’s hard to pick one. Mike tallied 10 points behind five goals and five assists; his previous season (and career) high was six points via three goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Chris scored seven goals and dished an assist. These two had a hand in 12 of the team’s 20 goals, including three times when Matt found Chris and once when Chris assisted Matt. In a tough season for defending champion Denver, Matt’s tremendous story continued. The first-year player, who was originally drafted in 2008, is tied for eighth in Major League Lacrosse with 41 points behind 28 goals and 13 assists. Chris owns 28 points this season (24 goals, four assists).
