Each week Major League Lacrosse gives out awards to the best players from the past week.
This week we have three awards, one for Offensive Player of the Week, one for Defensive Player of the Week, and lastly Rookie of the Week.
Lets go one, by one, and spotlight the recipient of each award and some of what they have done to deserve the award.
Lets start with he MLL Offensive Player of the Week award.
This week this award went to: Denver Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf.
Brendan Mundorf has been named the Offensive Player of the Week 6 times now in his career.
Sticking with the magic number of ‘6’… Mundorf scored 6 goals (a double-hat-trick, also known as a Sock Trick), and 2 assists in the 16-12 win over the Rochester Rattlers last Saturday.
During that same game, Mundorf was named the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game for the 13th time in his career.
Next up is the Defensive Player of the Week.
This award went to Jordan Burke, goalkeeper of the Boston Cannons.
Burke made 15 saves and allowed just four goals, in the Cannons 16-8 win over the Charlotte Hounds last Saturday.
Burke was named as the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game for the fourth time in his career.
This is Burke’s 5th MLL Defensive Player of the Week award of his career, leads the MLL with a 9.36 goals against average and a league-high 91 saves. He has also posted a league-high .583 save percentage.
Last, but not least, is the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week.
This award went to: Tommy Palasek the Long Island Lizards attackman.
Palasek scored a season-high 4 goals in the Lizard’s 16-12 win over the Ohio Machine last Saturday, and picked up the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game for the first time in his career.
Tommy Palasek was the 28th overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Palasek, led Syracuse to a 9-8 record as a senior and was the Orange’s leading scorer with 54 points while contributing a team-high 30 assists.
