The Hamilton Nationals announced yesterday evening that they have acquired midfielder Martin Cahill from the Boston Cannons in return for their fifth round draft pick in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft.
Cahill, who had played with the Rochester Rattlers, was traded to Boston after a disappointing start to last season. The midfielder was shipped to the Cannons for long bomb shooter Brad Ross who continued to be productive with the Rats.
However, Cahill picked up just two points in Boston despite being a native of Massachusetts. The Cannons, obviously disappointed in his performance, sent him to Hamilton for a fifth rounder.
Hamilton adds a midfielder who is a former MLL all star and has the potential to be a pretty good player in the league. Whatever happened last season is hopefully behind Cahill, for the Nationals at least.
Cahill’s best season came in 2011 when he scored 18 points with the Rattlers and he has 23 career points in three seasons as a pro.
