Wings Rocked By Rochester 20-10

After starting 2-0 the Philadelphia Wings (2-3) have lost three in a row.  The latest being a 20-10 spanking at the hands of the Rochester Knighthawks (2-3).  This is the second game in a row the Wings have been doubled up on the board, two weeks ago the Wings lost to Calgary 16-8.   This was the first game that the players involved in the December trade that sent Dan & Paul Dawson to Rochester in exchange for Hall, Rabil, White, Campbell.

Dangerous Dan Dawson exploded in his return to the Wells Fargo Center.  After only recording 11 points in his first 4 games, the Dangerous one doubled his point total by registering 4 goals and 7 assists versus his old mates.

Rochester opened the scoring at 1:39 when Johnny Powless put one past starter Brandon Miller.  Mike Accursi scored the first of his four goals at 7:15 of the first quarter.  Former Knighthawk Jordan Hall scored at 12:16 on the power play to draw the Wings within one at 2-1, but that would be as close as they Wings would get.

The Knighthawks seemed to put the game out of reach by scoring 8 goals in the second quarter; two of those goals were scored by Dan Dawson only 35 seconds apart to go into the half with an 11-2 lead.  As the third quarter started it was much of the same.  Rochester came out and scored two quick goals in the first 49 seconds of the third quarter for a 13-2 score.  As we know in the game of lacrosse no lead is safe. The Wings then scored five of the next seven goals to make the score 15-7.  As the final quarter started the Wings had hopes of an eight goal final quarter, the same way Rochester had their eight goal run in the second.  That was immediately dismissed as Rochester went on a four goal run and come away with a 20-10 victory.

The win by the Knighthawks was there 11th in a row over the Wings, including last years playoff game.  It was also Matt Vinc 11th  victory in a row over the Wings, dating back to when he was a member of the Titans.

Rochester was led by Dan Dawson 4G/7A and Mike Accursi 4 goals.  Wings captain Brodie Merrill registered a hat trick in the loss.

Rochester will now face the Bandits tonigt at 7:30 in the hopes of drawing their record to 3-3

Wings are off again next week, and will prepare for back-to-back games on Feb 23rd & 24th.  Feb 23rd they face the same Knighthawk team, this time in Rochester, then return home for a Sunday afternoon game against the Mammoth.

This one really stings as the Wings failed the first adversity test.   Is it time to worry for the Wings & their fans to worry?  Does this show that you can’t win with an American style team?  NO.  Wings are only 2-3 and are only 2 games out of first in the east, and as we have seen throughout the league so far anything can happen.  But the Wings fans are already running out of patience.  With what most fans are calling a terrible schedule as far as dates/time, they have now been doubled up in their last two home games by a total of 36-18.

In my opinion, you have 14 days to fix the errors. “The time is now”
