Last night, North Carolina and Notre Dame faced off in an all-important conference game in Chapel Hill, NC. The Tarheels have been breezing through this season, not losing a single game leading up to their match-up with the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame has been quite successful this season as well, only losing once at the hands of Boston College. Last night’s game could have been an entertaining, talent-full contest, but alas, it was not meant to be for the Irish.
From the beginning it appeared the Irish would not have a chance. North Carolina opened this game by going up five goals to none, and the scoring didn’t stop there. Four different players for the Tarheels scored hat tricks, including one by Sydney Holman. Notre Dame, however, consistently struggled to find the back of the net and could not keep pace with one of the hottest teams in NCCAW lacrosse.
Turnovers were the big story in this game, as ND gave up 19, allowing Carolina to take advantage on the offensive end. A balanced team effort was key if Notre Dame wanted to compete with the Tarheels, but unfortunately they could not accomplish that feat. Carolina controlled the entire game from beginning to end and proved that winning back-to-back Championships is a goal they are planning to accomplish by seasons end. The final score was 19-9.
North Carolina plays next this Sunday versus Penn, while Notre Dame will face off against Virginia Tech, also this Sunday.
