The Loyola Greyhounds will head to Charlottesville, VA this Saturday for a match against the Virginia Cavaliers at Klockner Stadium. This will be the fourth season in a row that the Hounds challenge the Cavaliers during their first home match of the season.
Loyola has 10 starters from last year returning to the turf this Saturday. Marlee Paton is one of those starters that the team is happy to have back. Paton, a senior, was named offensive player of the year by the Patriot League. Senior captain Katie Reinhard is also back for her last season with the Hounds. The team is also excited to welcome back goalkeeper Molly Wolf. Wolf was responsible for the Hound’s ninth shutout last season and finished out the season as the fourth freshman in the NCAA. Head Coach Jen Adams is excited to see the team put their hard work in the off-season into play this weekend.
The Virginia Cavaliers are ready to compete this Saturday on their home turf. After last weekend’s loss against Northwestern, the Cavs are hoping that they will be able to be on the other end of the game on Saturday. Coach Julie Myers is looking forward to how some of her team leaders reenergize and perform for their second game. Returning attackers Casey Bocklet and Ashlee Warner are two players that are going to have a standout season. The duo’s speed and agility will bring the heat for the Cavaliers this weekend. Last game, senior Liza Blue scored four goals and is looking to have another big game this weekend. Last Saturday’s 13-12 loss for the Cavaliers was just the motivation they need to start out strong and keep competing strongly throughout the entire game.
Both teams competed well in their last game, and I think they are hungry for a win, especially Virginia. Such a close loss is a great way to fuel the fire and increase a team’s performance in their next face off. Loyola does have a great reputation for their intense skills all acrosse the field. Saturday’s game will definitely be a very competitive and fast-paced match, and fans can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
