My name is Scott Janssen from the Men’s Dutch National Team. I started playing with the program at the 2010 World Championships in Manchester, England. I was also with the team in 2012 for the European Championships in Amsterdam. Prior to that, I played for Canada’s U-19 team in the 2003 World Championships.
The Dutch National Team arrived in Boulder, Colorado on June 29th arriving from various parts of the world. This was the first time the team was together as one. On the morning of June 30th, the team strapped on their pads and hit the field for practice. As of today, the team has put in over 22 hours of practice and are starting to come together. We were able to break up our practices with a couple of scrimmages. The first was against an FCA team, where we practiced together and then had a controlled scrimmage. We also scrimmaged a team from BYU and a team from Israel. Each time out, we got a little better at different aspects of our game.
We were also able to change pace on Sunday July 6th and headed up into the mountains for a 3 hour hike. Halfway through the hike, the terrain turned snowy and cold, which was a big difference from the 90 degree heat that we had been practicing in.
All in all, we have been working extremely hard to achieve our goal at improving on our 8th place finish at the 2010 World Championships. If we continue working the way that we currently are, this goal is definitely attainable.
I want to give a huge thank you to our team manager and our team athletic trainer (the Marys) for keeping us organized and healthy everyday. Without the two of them, we would be lost.
I also want to say thank you to Andrew from Boulder Lacrosse. He is our team liaison and has done a great job setting up activities and making us feel at home here in Boulder. We greatly appreciate all of his hard work.
Yesterday, we had a team lunch and watching the Dutch soccer team take on Argentina. Hup Holland Hup!
Until next time…
