As predicted, Logan Schuss was taken first overall by the Minnesota Swarm on Monday night at the 2013 NLL Draft in Oakville, ON. The Ohio Machine and B.C product was highly touted as the most sought after prospect entering the 2013 draft. Schuss did not have to wait long to see who would join him on the Swarm roster this upcoming season, as the Swarm had the 2nd overall pick and selected Orangeville, ON native; Jason Noble. When asked what he thinks he will bring to training camp this winter, Noble said he is going to bring “hustle, energy to the team, and speed to earn a spot on the team”. He said he is excited to join a young and fast team which likes to push the ball up the floor and has a great group of guys and ownership.
The Colorado Mammoth selected goaltender Dillon Ward from Bellarmine University and Kitchener Waterloo Kodiaks, 3rd overall in the draft. He was highly recognized as the top goaltender in this years draft. It will be interesting to see where Ward fits in with up and coming star Ty Belanger and veteran Dan Lewis already occupying the crease for the Mammoth.
St. Catharines, ON native, Zac Reid was taken 46th overall by the Rochester Knighthawks on Monday night and said he is looking forward to training camp and will bring a hardworking effort. He was very happy to be drafted by the Knighthawks and is very honored to be a part of a quality organization.
One player that is very grateful for the NLL Combine is James Delaney. He was selected 18th overall by the Philadephia Wings in the second round. Delaney scored six goals and five assists in Sundays prospects game. He wasn’t expected to be drafted in the first couple rounds or at all, but after Sundays performance he showed scouts why he would be a valuable asset to any NLL roster. Delaney said that the combine was big for him and gave kudos to growing the game with the combine and that it played a big role in where he got drafted”. He said he plans to come into training camp with a bang and score some timely goals to show why he deserves a roster spot come January.
