We are about six months away from the NLL draft. That means it’s time to start looking at draft prospects! Well, maybe not. This isn’t an NFL draft after all. But it might be interesting seeing who is eligible and who has a chance to draft some top players this fall.
First Round
Toronto Rock (From Colorado)
Minnesota Swarm
Colorado Mammoth (From Rochester)
Minnesota Swarm (From Edmonton)
Calgary Roughnecks
Minnesota Swarm (From Buffalo)
Edmonton Rush (From Philadelphia)
Washington Stealth
Minnesota Swarm (From Toronto Rock)
Minnesota has a lot of first round picks again. They had four last year and picked up Brock Sorensen, Kiel Matisz, Shayne Jackson and Alex Crepisnick. This season they have four picks again, including the second overall pick, again.
The first pick they get is from their actual record, at least in the standings right now. The one from Buffalo comes from the Anthony Cosmo trade. They get their pick from the Rush from the Zack Greer trade in 2011 and they get the pick from the Rock in the Ryan Sharp trade in 2011.
Meanwhile, the Rush get their pick from Philly from the Athan Iannucci trade. The pick from the Knighthawks to the Mammoth comes from the 2011 John Grant Jr trade.
Now, onto some first round prospects that we know will be around. We have two goaltenders, Blake Duncan from the Sr A Burrards in the WLA and Dillon Ward from Orangeville. We know Colorado needs a goalie. Neither will likely be the first overall so maybe in later rounds.
Jason Noble from Orangeville and Cornell. Second overall pick in the MSL draft to Kitchener-Waterloo and a transition guy. Could be a first rounder. Logan Schuss is a lefty forward from Ohio State who has played Delta Jr A and was drafted by New Westminster. Another great talent.
Zach Palmer has been playing with the Whitby Warriors and Johns Hopkins, and if you saw the Hopkins vs UMBC game yesterday (March 8th) you saw some of the skill he has. He could be a player with some risking stock.
Some players who have already played at the Canadian Sr A level include Cameron Mann (Kitchener-Waterloo), Casey Jackson (Burnaby), Scott Jones (Burnaby), Karson Leung (Victoria) and Riley Lowen (Maple Ridge).
Other names like Rob Pannell and JoJo Morasco are available that we have heard of in college. Morasco has actualy played Jr A in Toronto as well so he might get a shot. Which prospects are you looking at that might not be on this list?
