The New England Black Wolves moved to 1-1 on the preseason with a 12-11 scrimmage victory yesterday over the Rochester Knighthawks from the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.
Newly acquired forward Shawn Evans scored twice for the Black Wolves and rookie Mike MacDonald also found the back of the net twice. Other goals came from Pat Saunders, Kyle Buchnan, Jimmy Purves, and Mark Cockerton.
For the Rochester end of things, Joe Resetarits scored three goals and Craig Point added two. Jordan Hall, Joe Walters, Joel Matthews, Paul Dawson, and Ty Thompson also picked up single goals, while rookie John St. John buried his first NLL tally, albeit preseason.
Matt Vinc started the first half while Brandon Styres played the third quarter and rookie Lukas Coote wrapped things up. Vinc shut the ‘Wolves down in the first two quarters, only surrendering five goals by the half.
“It gave the young guys a good opportunity to see what’s expected and what’s next. Overall, especially defensively, they were good,” said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen on the team website. “They’re going to be good. They just have to learn a few things and that will take time, but it’s part of the process.”
