Our Phil Shore is in Philadelphia tonight where he will be live blogging the Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft. Before we get to that, we bring you our official mock draft of the first round.
1. OHIO MACHINE – PETER BAUM, A, COLGATE:
Yeah, Ohio has a lot of attackers. But Baum is the best player in the draft and one way or another Ohio could use more offensive weapons. With him and Steele Stanwick they could have a great young core on attack.
2. HAMILTON NATIONALS – TUCKER DURKIN, D, JOHNS HOPKINS:
Hamilton has some strong defenders in Kyle Rubisch and Brodie Merrill but Tucker Durkin is probably the second best player available in the draft. He will be able to step right in and play.
3. CHARLOTTE HOUNDS – MIKE SAWYER, A, LOYOLA::
Charlotte lost two attackers in Billy Bitter and Jeremy Boltus this off season. Sawyer seems like a very logical choice for them at the third overall pick. He is a North Carolina native and would be the last piece to a new look yet strong attack unit.
4. CHESAPEAKE BAYHAWKS (FROM CHARLOTTE FROM ROCHESTER) – WILL MANNY, A, UMASS:
Chesapeake has little to no holes and Manny would be the best player here. He helped UMass have one of their best seasons ever and could see some playing time.
5. NEW YORK LIZARDS – MARCUS HOLMAN, A/M, NORTH CAROLINA:
Holman is a very productive player and versatile, being able to play attack and midfield, something the Lizards would love for sure.
6. BOSTON CANNONS – BRIAN MEGILL, D, SYRACUSE:
Boston lost some defense in Jack Reid and JJ Morrissey while Megill had a strong 2012 campaign with Syracuse. He can face off too which they could use.
7. DENVER OUTLAWS – JESSE BERNHARDT, LSM, MARYLAND:
A big strong defender, Denver would be adding a great player to their team and is likely the best available at this point in the draft.
8. CHARLOTTE HOUNDS (FROM CHESAPEAKE) – LOGAN SCHUSS, A, OHIO STATE:
A captain this season with Ohio State, the attackman adds more depth o the position for Charlotte which could open up for some pre season competition.
Honorable Mentions: Casey Carroll, D, Duke; Chris LaPierre, M, Virginia; Josh Hawkins, M, Loyola; Scott Ratliff, LSM, Loyola; Cam Flint, M, Denver
