Editorial: A tribute to Rocco Granato

https://www.bacchifh.com/obituaries/Rocco-Joseph-Granato-III?obId=19505696#/obituaryInfo I met Rocco Granato only once; he and his wife Jackie came to Toronto last year for a Rock/Wings game. I didn’t get a picture with him at the time, and when I realized later that I should have, I thought “next time!” knowing he was a frequent traveller when it came to lacrosse. But there won’t be a next time. Rocco tragically passed away on December 29 from…

Ingemi: ‘Granato was everything lacrosse fandom is supposed to be about’

In 2012 when I brought Rocco on to ILWT it was a shift for the entire website. I knew I wanted the site to be a space for people passionate about lacrosse, and that described Rocco to a T. I wasn’t sure he would be into it; being a fan and writing don’t always translate. But his passion and knowledge of the game made him beyond the perfect fit, and…

ILWT Feature: No more Miller time in Philadelphia

Brandon Miller retired from the National Lacrosse League much like he began his lacrosse career – quietly making an impact and moving on to do great things. And, if it seems like history is repeating itself, that is because it is. It is no longer Miller Time in Philadelphia. Miller first retired after the 2018 season where he’d been with the Toronto Rock for four and a half years after…

ILWT Feature: Medicine Game was therapeutic process for author Delby Powless

Books written about lacrosse are few and far between. When they are, you know they’re going to be good because how many people would write about lacrosse unless they had a passion for the game? Today we get to do something fun and chat with the author of one of the best new books of the season, and of course it’s about lacrosse. Medicine Game is written by Delby Powless,…

REVIEW: Powless’ Medicine Game should be under every lacrosse fan’s Christmas tree

My first job was at Chapters, which was the family business as I grew up. I am a book snob. I have no problem admitting that. While the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover” has generally come to mean “don’t judge a person by their looks,” I absolutely judge actual books by their covers. I mean, you can take one look at a romance novel and know everything…

MSL: Excelsiors head coach supports fight to keep team in Brampton

In all the back-and-forth regarding the relocation of the Brampton Excelsiors, one voice that hasn’t been heard is one that probably most embodies the spirit of the team and the city. After a successful run with the Jr. A Excelsiors, Dan Teat was promoted to head coach of the MSL club in 2019. Though he’s only coached them through one season, he’s been part of the organization for 45 years….

MSL: Excelsiors Board of Directors not contesting move to Owen Sound

A firestorm started on Lacrosse Twitter last week is coming to an end. The Brampton Excelsiors Lacrosse Club will not be contesting the move of the Major Excelsiors to Owen Sound. The BELC Board of Directors released a statement this afternoon rebuffing a popular theory on the social media platform that the 2018 transfer of the team to Joe Norton was done without authorization from the board. In part, the…
