Patriot League Week in Review

The Patriot League took advantage of spotlight offer by the Metropolitan Classic yesterday at a frigid Citi Field.   In the opener, Holy Cross midfielder Terry McKenna led the way with 4 goals as the Crusaders (4-3, 1-1) bested Navy 7-5 on Sunday.   The teams battled back and forth in the first half, ending with Holy Cross ahead 4-3.  Pat Durkin scored 2 goals for the Mids who are now 1-2 (3-5 overall) in Patriot League play.

In the second affair, Michigan scored the opener, but Colgate controlled the game the rest of the way with a comfortable 10-7 victory against the winless Wolverines.  Peter Baum and Ryan Walsh combined for 6 goals and 3 assists as the Michigan defense didn’t have many answers for the Raider offense, especially from behind the cage.  Long pole Kevin Boyle found net as well and Conor Murphy was strong between the pipes with 12 saves.  Colgate is now 6-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Saturday Recaps

In another Patriot League matchup, Lehigh marched into Michie Stadium and marched out with a solid 10-6 victory over the host Black Knights.  The Mountain Hawks (now 5-3, 1-0) got out to a 6-2 lead at the half  led by Brian Hess with 3 goals on the afternoon.  Army (4-3, 0-1) made it interesting in the in the third quarter cutting the lead to 7-5, but could get no closer.  Garrett Thul had a goal and 2 assists in the losing effort.

Bucknell used a 6 goal fourth quarter to outdistance Lafayette Saturday night in Easton.  Todd Heritage found net 5 times and Tom Flibotte continued his hot streak contributing three more as the Bison (6-1, 2-0) have now won 5 in a row.  The Leopards were led by Kevin Wanke (2G) and Morgan Westby (1G, 2A).  Faceoff man Greg Rau was strong winning 13 draws at the X.

Midweek Action

Bucknell connected early and often against Drexel to easily outduel the Dragons 17-8.  Tom Flibotte had an extraordinary 6 goals in the victory Tuesday night

Navy continued its struggles in close games falling to visiting in-state rival Towson 8-7.   Navy started up 3-0 and entered the 4th quarter with a one goal lead but couldn’t hold on.  Bryce Dabbs (2G) and Tucker Hall (1G, 1A) were the offensive leaders for the Midshipmen.
