Vermont will travel to Happy Valley this weekend to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in their first match of the season. The two teams have not met since 2008, which ended in a Penn State victory.
Vermont boasts of a sophomore with an incredible scoring ability. Ian Mackay was responsible for 42 points last year for the Catamounts.
Vermont’s captains, Bryan Capone and Andrew Bucknavage, bring an experienced edge to the roster. Bucknavage was a captain last year, and not only keeps the team’s morale high off the field, but he also brings the heat to the midfield.
Capone has a reputation for causing turnovers every chance he has. This proves as an incredible asset for the Catamounts, and a huge danger to the Nittany Lions.
The blue and white have the home field advantage this weekend. The Lions will be in their element and they are ready to compete. PSU’s defense will need to work hard against Mackay, and their goalie will need to be on point for the team to be successful this weekend.
This will be a great chance for the returning contributors will set the tone for the season. JP Burnside, TJ Sanders, and Michael Richards will be on the radar, as they are some of the top competitors for the Nittany Lions.
It could be either team’s game this weekend, and it all comes down to defensive abilities, as both Vermont and Penn State have stellar offensive lines.
Saturday’s match will take place at 12pm at Holuba Hall in University Park, PA.
