With the 2013 Presidents’ Cup set to take place August 26 to September 1 in Kahnawake, the Onondoga Redhawks will look to claim the trophy for the first time since 2010.
The Redhawks recently captured their second consecutive Can-Am Lacrosse League title, and third in the last four years, defeating the Newtown Golden Hawks in the finals.
Standouts on the Redhawks roster include Vancouver Stealth member Brett Bucktooth. The seven year NLL veteran put up 54 points in nine regular season games before notching nine points in two playoff appearances for the Redhawks.
Veteran Neal Powless will also look to lead the Redhawks. Powless was a three-time All American at Nazareth College during the nineties and was a member of the Rochester Knighthawks’ during their first championship title. Powless produced 45 points for Onondoga this year, including tying Bucktooth for the team high in goals with 24.
AJ Bucktooth and Dwayne Porter will both look to continue momentum from an impressive postseason into Presidents’ Cup play. The duo shared the Redhawks lead in playoff scoring with 12 points each. Pete Bentedict, a former first round draft pick of the Rochester Knighthawks who led the Redhawks in regular season scoring with 58 points, was absent from the roster during Onondoga’s playoff run.
The Redhawks will play five round robin games to determine which four teams will advance to a playoff round. A full schedule can be found below.
