InLacrosseWeTrust has learned, through sources, of a major trade in the OLA Junior A ranks. Chris Attwood has been traded, along with Jordan Houtby, from the St Catharine’s Athletics to the defending Minto Cup Champions, the Whitby Warriors.
Two people close to players involved confirmed the trade but at the time of this writing along with numerous twitter accounts. The Whitby Warriors would later post their own message (@WhitbyWarriors) announcing the team had acquired both Attwood and Houtby, along with the signing of Tyler Gilligan. The deal is for a package of undisclosed draft picks.
Chris Attwood made headlines this off season after moving from Six Nations’ Junior B squad where he led the league with 135 points in 20 games, to play for St Catherine’s. He was drafted with the Ohsweken Demons’ first pick, fifth overall, to the Canadian Lacrosse League last November where he also led that league in scoring with 71 points in just 12 games, two of which he scored three combined points. So far this season Attwood has amassed 56 points (28 goals, 28 assists), good enough for eighth overall in the league. He joins a Whitby roster that already has four of the league’s top ten scorers.
Houtby is a defensive specialist who has just five points in ten games, but thirty-seven penalty minutes.
Clearly Whitby, who will host this year’s Minto Cup, is making a push to defend their title. Meanwhile, St Catharines is battling just to stay alive in the playoff hunt.
