According to the team Facebook page, the Rhode Island Kingfish of the North American Lacrosse League have named Charlie Blanchard their head coach for the 2013 season. Steven O’Donnell was named the assistant head coach.
Blanchard has been an assistant coach with the Bryant Bulldogs NCAA lacrosse team. He is a former assistant lacrosse coach with Ohio Wesleyan.
Blanchard is also a former player in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (now known as the NLL) where he played for the Boston Blazers in the nineties.
Playing five years in the MILL, Blanchard had a career 119 points. His best season was 1997, his last year, where he scored 39 points in ten games.
Blanchard had ten points career in the playoffs, his best year in 1993 when he scored four in two playoff games with the Blazers.
O’Donnell was inducted into the New England Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1996 and was the Rhode Island high school lacrosse coach of the year in 2008. He led the La Salle Rams to a championship in 2012, his first state title as a coach.
