The Toronto Rock (7-9) clinched a playoff berth with a 10-9 win on Saturday night over the Philadelphia Wings (5-11) at Air Canada Centre.
After scoring the opening goal of the game, Philadelphia’s Kevin Crowley scored a pair to give the Wings a 2-1 lead. Toronto played catch up the rest of the opening quarter and ended the opening 15 minutes tied trailing 5-4.
Philadelphia scored shorthanded to increase their lead to a pair at 6-4. Toronto went on a three-goal run to take the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of the game. Philadelphia scored before the end of the half to leave things tied 7-7 at the half.
Five minutes into the third quarter, Rob Hellyer broke the tie with his third goal of the game. Jordan Hall struck on the power play with just over a minute left in the frame to once again tie the score, 8-8.
The Rock scored a pair of goals before the final quarter was two and a half minutes old. Kasey Beirnes and Stephan Leblanc scored for Toronto. Crowley responded late for Philadelphia but Rock goaltender Brandon Miller slammed the door on his former team, earning his first win at home as a member of the Rock.
Hellyer scored three times and added five assists for an eight-point night. Leblanc scored 3 times while Beirnes added a pair. Nick Diachenko and Josh Sanderson each had singles for Toronto.
Miller was spectacular in the Rock goal earning his second win in three starts with Toronto and making 48 saves in the process.
