Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson has announced the signing of free agent forward Brett Hickey to a 1-year agreement. The contract is pending league approval.
The Windsor, Ontario native was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 NLL Draft by the Vancouver Stealth. Hickey played his entire Junior lacrosse career with his hometown Windsor AKO Fratmen (now the Clippers) of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL). In his final year of Junior B in 2011, he put up 50 goals and added 77 assists for 127 points, which was second in the OJBLL.
In the summer months, Hickey has played in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) for both the Langley Thunder and Coquitlam Adanacs over the past 3 seasons. This past summer, he finished 4th overall in league scoring with 26 goals and 36 assists for 62 points in 18 games.
Last season in limited NLL duty with the Stealth, Hickey played 3 games and scored 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points. In 9 career NLL games, he has a total of 5 goals, 5 assists and 10 points.
The 24-year old is still looking to make his mark in the NLL and the Rock could provide the perfect opportunity given the potential hole in the right side of the offence left by injured star Garrett Billings who is still recovering from a torn ACL.
