About 1,000 fans were in attendance to watch the Boston romp. The Rockhoppers picked up a 16-9 win at home against their rival Kentucky Stickhorses for their third straight win against them.
Ryan Hotaling led the way with six goals as Boston moves to 2-1 on the year while Kentucky falls to 1-2 after losing to Boston twice just this season. Their only win comes against Rhode Island while the only Boston loss was suffered against Baltimore.
The Rockhoppers went up early in the game as Mike Stone scored. They would score their second from Tommy Palasek on the power play.
Kentucky would have some defensive breakdowns and were saved by the post, resulting in a goal from Eric O’Brien for the Stickhorses. Mike McClellan would score a power play goal a few minutes later.
Stone would score again for a brief lead before McClellan scored again for the tie. Marty Bowes scored his first on the power play after a major penalty to Max Schmidt.
Greg Bice would score to tie the game again near the end of the second. At the half the score would be 6-5 Boston. Brandon Dube would add another in the half while Ryan Hotaling scored two in a row.
After the half, Boston would mostly dominate the third. Bowes would score his second goal before a Kentucky goal from Joel Derinchinsky. But then Boston would see goals from Cameron Lao-Gosney and then back to back from Palasek for the hat trick.
Derinchinsky would score his second to cut the score to three. Lantz Carter scored his first seconds later to make the score 11-7 Boston.
The Rockhoppers would control the second half led by six goals from Ryan Hotaling. They would win by a final score of 16-9. Lyons would get pulled in the fourth quarter for Patrick Crosby who saw his first action of the season.
Next week the Rockhoppers travel to Baltimore to face the Bombers. Kentucky has next week off but face the Bombers on February 1st.
