This Saturday night at 7pm The National Lacrosse League returns to the home of the two time Western Lacrosse Association Champions Langley Thunder. The Calgary Roughnecks will face the Colorado Mammoth.
The Roughnecks are led by forwards Jeff Shattler, Scott Ranger, Dane Dobbie & Daryl Veltman., along with faceoff specialist Geoff Snider. If the names sound familiar to you, that’s because most of these players have played in the Event Center as the opposition during the summer. Look for first round draft picks Joe Resetarits, and Matthew Dinsdale as they try to crack the 23 man roster of the Calgary Roughnecks.
The Mammoth are led by 2012 League MVP John Grant Jr. during the 2012 season, Jr tallied 116 points breaking a record held by Bandits John Tavares. Along with Grant, the Mammoth come in to town with Captain Gavin Prout, Rookie of the Year Adam Jones, Jamie Shewchuk, and so many more. Langley fans, we have 2 Thunder players in this game. First from your two time WLA Champions, Ian Poole will be looking to make a good showing in the game in the hopes of making the 23 man roster of the Mammoth. Our second Thunder player comes from the Jr A Thunder. Jaeden Gastaldo, Gastaldo who turns 22 (1/28/13) is also looking to make the Mammoth team. In speaking with his coach, Jake “Jumbo” Elliott “Jaeden is the type of player who is a hard worker, has a great attitude toward everyone, has extremely quick speed end to end, good game sense with decent stick skills, and most of all he is VERY coachable”. So be sure to keep your eyes on our two Thunder boys.
The NLL season kicks off Jan 5, as defending champion Rochester Knighthawks face the Washington Stealth.
The season for the Mammoth and the Roughnecks start on Jan 12, as both teams are at home. The Mammoth host the Stealth and the Roughnecks will face the Toronto Rock.
