Scott Evans of the Peterborough Lakers hit a milestone in his career on Tuesday evening.
The journeyman forward and member of the legendary Evans sports family tied Gary Gait for fifth place on the all time Mann Cup points list. Evans and Gait have each recorded 120 points. Gait achieved this in 28 games while Evans scored his in 32.
Evans had a chance to break the tie on Wednesday in game five but was held pointless in a tight, defensive, 7-5 battle. He’ll have two more chances this year to slip solely into fifth place in game six, and he hopes, game seven.
John Tavares, winner of eight Mann Cups, sits in first place with 203, while John Grant Jr. is in second with 174. Both spent time with the Lakers and won Mann Cups with them. Geordie Dean is third with 161 points and Colin Doyle fourth with 137.
“Fifth in Mann Cup scoring.” Evans took a split second to marvel about it in post-game interview. “It’s a good accomplishment catching Gary Gait, but you know what, I’ve got five Mann Cups right now and I want a sixth really bad.”
The Lakers are facing the Victoria Shamrocks who lead the series three games to two.
Evans played in his first Mann Cup in 2004. The next year, he lead the Lakers in scoring in the series. Eleven years after he played for his first national senior lacrosse title, he’s looking to win his sixth and continue the Lakers, and Evans, dynasty.
Evan’s brother Shawn is 23rd place with 87 points and their father Paul sits in 38th place with 69.
