The Saskatchewan Rush won their third-straight game on Saturday night, taking an 11-7 victory over the Halifax Thunderbirds. This also marked two straight wins over the Thunderbirds following their 10-9 win in Halifax last weekend.
Saskatchewan now sits atop the NLL standings with a 4-1 record while Halifax has slipped to sixth place and a 2-2 record after dropping two straight to the Rush.
The Rush opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, with Zach Manns scoring the first of three he would earn on the night. He would add another at the 4:32 mark to give his team a 2-0 advantage going into the second quarter.
Both offences really got going in the second quarter, with Halifax opening things up early. the teams then traded goals for the rest of the period, with the Thunderbirds outscoring the Rush 5-4 and reducing the Saskatchewan lead to just one goal going into halftime.
The third quarter solved nothing, with both teams earning two goals and sending the contest to the final quarter with only a single goal separating them. But as they did in the first quarter, the Rush took control of the game for the last 15 minutes, scoring three more goals to put Halifax away.
For the second week in a row, goaltending was the big story, with Frankie Scigliano stopping 30 shots for the Rush and Warren Hill keeping his Thunderbirds in the game with 42 saves.
Both teams resume action on the road Friday night. The Rush travel to Las Vegas to face the Desert Dogs; the Thunderbirds will be in Ottawa battling the Black Bears.
