Tonight in the WLA the Langley Thunder (5-3-1) host the Coquitlam Adanacs (4-6). Langley leads the season series 2-0 as they have defeated the Adanacs by scores of 5-3 and 12-10. Both these games have come down to the wire but both times the Thunder have been able to dig deep and pull out the victory.
If Coquitlam wants to win this matchup against the Thunder the Adanacs will want to play like they did in their first meeting this season with the Thunder. In that game the Adanacs were able to hold the Thunder to just five goals which was Langley’s second lowest goal total of the season. Coquitlam was able to hold the Thunder to just 27 shots on the night along with limiting Alex Turner and Athan Iannucci’s offensive production. The Adanacs need to play tight defense and force the Thunder to make mistakes. The Adanacs on offense will need Brett Hickey, Matthew Dinsdale, and Jesse Guerin to step up so Dane Dobbie will be able to find some open space and be able to make his mark on the scoreboard.
The Thunder in this matchup will want to use their deep offense to overpower the Adanacs defense. The Thunder’s offensive trio of Shayne Jackson, Athan Iannucci, and Alex Turner need to spread the ball around and open space in order to generate shots on Adam Shute. Shute has been up and down all year so Langley will want to score early and shake his confidence. Langley will also need goaltender Brodie MacDonald to keep up his strong play as the Dane Dobbie will challenge him and if MacDonald can shut him down the Thunder will win this game.
In the end the Thunder will win this game thanks to MacDonald’s strong play as he will be the difference in this game. The last two meetings between these two teams have been very close so MacDonald will need to keep Coquitlam off the score sheet. The Thunder outclass the Adanacs in every aspect of the game and will prove that on Wednesday night.
