On Saturday night the Toronto Rock will take on the Edmonton Rush in pre-season action. This game will be played at the new Toronto Rock Athletic Centre at 7pm.
This is a great way for the Rock to start the season as it will allow them to see how they match up with the Rush, who went to the NLL final last year. Some of the rookies to watch for the Rock will be defensemen Bradley Kri. Kir will need to impress in training camp if he hopes to make the Rock roster. Another player to watch for the Rock will be the recently signed Scott Evans, who played last year with the Rush. Evans had 24 goals and 23 assists in just 11 games last year and will look to show his former team that they were wrong to let him go. Overall this will be a great game for the Rock to work on chemistry and timing as the Rush will make for a good test.
The Edmonton Rush were the Cinderella story of the NLL last year as they just squeaked into the playoffs and were able to upset their way to the NLL finals. The Rush will hope to continue their success from last season as they begin to prepare for the regular season. Two rookies to watch for the Rush will be forward Curtis Knight as well as Edmonton’s first overall pick Mark Matthews. Expect both these players to come out looking to make big plays and to solidify themselves a spot on the team’s roster. Expect many of the Rush players to be motivated in this game as they will all want to make an early statement that they deserve to be on the team’s roster on opening night.
This will be an interesting pre-season game between two solid teams with lots of hungry young players on both sides looking to break into the NLL, along with some vets who will be looking to keep their spots.
