Two Mann Cup Players Test For Cannabis Violation

The Mann Cup this past September was marred with stories about drug testing, with coaches suspended and reprimands flying, and yesterday we found out what the trouble was in Peterborough.

Two unidentified players in the Mann Cup have tested positive for cannabis. Neither one will be suspended but if they are caught again, per rules, they will have a lifetime ban from the Canadian Lacrosse Association.

First time offenders who violate the World Anti-Doping Agency can face up to a two year suspension, but both of these players will be able to play in 2013.

Both coaches of the Langley Thunder and Peterborough Lakers were suspended during the Mann Cup for not cooperating with officials drug testing the players, and the situation almost became a bigger story than the Mann Cup itself.

Western Lacrosse Association commissioner Casey Cook told the Coquitlam News that he would be surprised if either player came from Langley, and that the league had not been notified of the reprimand.
