The Durham Turfdogs look to open up their season at 2-0 for the first time in their four year franchise history.
The Turfdogs kicked off their 2015 campaign with an impressive 10-4 win over the defending Creator’s Cup champion Niagara Lock Monsters. Peterborough,ON native Kyle Clancy tallied six points(1G,5G) in his CLax debut. The former Buffalo Bandit was named offensive player of the week. Fellow Turfdogs’ Cole Murrary and Mark Farthing also nabbed player of the week nods. Farthing was named Transition Player of the Week after his one goal and solid defensive performance. Netminder Murray made 49 saves while adding an assist in the Turfdogs win.
On the other side of the floor, the Barrie Blizzard look to pick up their first win of the year. Coach Brad MacArthur’s squad dropped a tough 13-11 loss at the hands of the Southwest Cyclops on Sunday. Brad Levick had a stellar start with his new club. The Elmira College grad netted a hat trick and an assist for four points in his debut with the Blizzard. Mike Mawdsley, the seventh pick overall in the 2014 draft had a solid start to his CLax career. The Sacred Heart grad recorded a hat trick and two assists while being named an honorable mention for Transition Player of the Week.
Veteran netminder Angus Dineley was in between the pipes for the Blizzard. Neil Roberts and Rance Vigneux are the other goaltenders for the Blizzard and may see action this Saturday against the Turfdogs.
