The Vancouver Stealth announced today that they have named Kyle Sorensen as an assistant coach and the team’s defensive coordinator.
“We had a very qualified group of candidates interested in this position and are humbled by their interest in joining our organization. In the end, we believe that Kyle is the best person for the job. He has a tremendous mind for the game and we have seen his leadership on and off the floor. He has earned the respect of our players, and we know what he is capable of as a coach,” commented President and General Manager, Doug Locker.
Head Coach, Dan Perreault agreed saying, “Kyle commands respect and is loyal leader. I am very confident in his abilities to innovate, as he’ll be looked upon to help maximize the potential of a talented defense.”
Sorensen played his entire career with the Stealth after having been drafted 2nd overall in the 2006 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. A native of Peterborough, Ontario he played in eight seasons with the Stealth appearing in 112 games scoring 28 goals, 43 assists, 71 points while adding 417 loose balls. He served as captain of the team from 2013 to 2014 and helped lead to the Stealth to an NLL Championship in 2010 and championship game appearances in 2011 and 2013. He is a four-time winner of the Mann Cup with the Peterborough Lakers and at 20 years old, was one of the few players to win both the Mann Cup and Minto Cup the same year (2006). He was the 2006 Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the OLA Junior ‘A’, 2007 OLA Junior ‘A’ First-Team All-Star and he was also selected the 2008 MSL Rookie of the Year.
More recently, Sorensen was an assistant coach with the Coquitlam Jr. A Adanacs helping guide them to a Provincial Championship and Minto Cup appearance this past summer. He has been active with the Stealth Lacrosse Academy and the Junior Stealth program for many years and has been an integral part of various youth clinics and camps throughout the lower mainland.

Sorensen replaces long-time assistant coach Art Webster. Locker spoke fondly of Webster’s service,
“Art has been a friend of the Stealth and a mentor to me and many on the management team. We wish him all the best and send our gratitude for his loyal service.”
