Vince Talbot Blog: Aiming for the NLL

On Saturday November 17th I had the chance to participate in the Philadelphia Wings rookie camp. During this three hours player showcase the coaching staff of the Wings made us go through drills and scrimmages.  It was great to get to play with some of the Wings future prospects and also some familiar faces that I had played with or against before.

The QSLL/TNLL was well represented at the camp with guys like Ethan Farrel of the Voyageurs and Joe Hall of the Muskies making a great impression in my opinion. Ethan shined during the scrimmages with his ability to finish and to create space for snipers. His restlessness and tirelessness served him well. Joe Hall, on his side, showed everyone why he is known as a sniper!

For myself, I think I managed to show that I keep improving and that I can play at that level. Obviously the decisions are not mine to make but I’ve been working and preparing for this camp for a while now and I came out happy with my quickness and my ability to stay focus and calm. At that level though what is true for me is true for the other goalies as well. There is a lot of talent and it is sometimes hard to see the difference from one goalie to the other. I think that as an individual what you have to keep in mind is how you act on the field and how prepared you are. The team is looking for someone to invest in and the work ethic certainly is a big factor in my mind.

On a final note it is great to see how far the Voyageurs program as come. No less than six Voyageurs were invited to the camp and I think the future is even brighter for those who are willing to commit to the Vermont team. I’m looking forward to writing again for In Lacrosse We Trust as part of either the Wings or the Rockhoppers for the coming winter season.
