The Vermont Voyageurs defeated the Montreal Phoenix to get to the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League finals, where they will take on the Kahnawake Mohawks.
“Kahnawake has a deeper roster with more experience than Montreal has.” said Chad Fairfoull, the coach of the Voyageurs. “Kahnawake also has a very creative style of offence that is more about reading the play and reacting to it. Â Kahnawake will make tou pay for any little mistakes you make on defence so we cant afford to give them any easy goals. Â We have to push them on defence so they earn everything they get.”
The Voyageurs swept the Phoenix in the semi final series, topping Montreal in the second and last game in Double OT behind a four goal performance from Greg Rogowski. But will the Voyageurs have players like Ryan Hotaling ready to go for the series against Kahnawake?
“Yes.” said Fairfoull. Â “Actually I expect to have my entire roster to choose from for the full series.
“I think that the players learned that in the indoor game you need to play for the full 60 minutes. ” said Fairfoull of this series. “We let up in both games for a 5 minute stretch and let the team back in both games of the first series”
This next series with Kahnawake will be different than the one in Montreal, being a best of five. Fairfoull closes out with his thoughts on that. “The longer the series is , the tougher it is. Â Especially in a contact sport like lacrosse because little rivalries are created. Â When you line up against the same guys for 5 games straight, you get to know their style of play and it makes it harder to win the little battles. Â It means that you need to constantly outwork your opponent on the little things like loose balls and transition on to Defense.”
