For the first time in 2014, Chris Attwood did not find himself in the top three In Lacrosse We Trust Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) Three Stars. With the regular season wrapping up this weekend, many players have navigated their teams to a better position heading into the playoffs. Here are the ILWT CLax Three Stars of Week 7.
Third Star: Dave DiRuscio—Niagara Lock Monsters
Rookie netminder Dave DiRuscio continued his dominance between the pipes as he made an impressive 49 saves en route to beating SouthWest while allowing just seven goals. DiRuscio has taken over as Niagara’s starting netminder and has made a great case for not only Rookie of the Year but also Most Outstanding Netminder.
Second Star: Jonas Derks—Barrie Blizzard
Veteran Jonas Derks netted four goals and added four assists in Barrie’s two victories this past weekend. The former Durham Turfdog general manger now has 25 points in his first professional lacrosse season since 2008.
First Star: Caleb Wiles—Barrie Blizzard
Caleb Wiles helped lift his team into third place with a pair of wins this past weekend as he found the back of the net eight times while chipping in five helpers. The 2013 Rookie of the Year leads the Blizzard in scoring with 27 points in seven games played.
