With the MSL season still months away here are a few things fans can expect to see next season.
1.Six Nations will continue to be the team to beat.
The Six Nations Chiefs won the Mann Cup in 2013 and have a good chance of repeating in 2014. The Chiefs have by far the best offense in the MSL with the trio of Colin Doyle, Craig Point, and Cody Jamieson. Doyle notched 76 points while Point had 71 points and Cody Jamieson had 67 points. These three terrorized the league thanks to their ability to spread the ball around and find open opportunities. Six Nations also received excellent goaltending from Evan Kirk who had a 13-2 record last season and posted a 7.62 Goals Against Average. The Chiefs will continue to be the powerhouse in the MSL this upcoming season.
2.The Kitchener Waterloo Kodiaks will be the surprise team of 2014.
The Kodiaks finished with a record of 10-9-1 in 2013 and finished fourth in the MSL. The Kodiaks would make the playoffs but were swept by the Six Nations Chiefs although the Kodiaks put up on hell of a fight. The Kodiaks began 2014 with a bang as they traded for Daryl Veltman. Veltman had 47 points in 10 games last season and will add some much needed depth to the Kodiaks offense. Doyle will help to support Aaron Wilson. Wilson carried the offense for the Kodiaks in 2013 and the addition of Doyle will help to open up more space for Wilson because if defenses focus on Wilson than Doyle will burn them. The Kodiaks have all the tools to make a run for the Mann Cup in 2013.
3.Shawn Evans will once again lead the MSL in scoring.
Shawn Evans had an outstanding season in 2013 posting 29 goals and 77 assists for 106 points. With Peterbrough still having one of the best teams expect to see similar numbers from Evans this season as he is surrounded by great talent in the form of Scott Evans, Josh Gillam, Mark Steenhuis and John Grant. Evans showed his playmaking skills last season and with so many familiar faces back in the Lakers line up this season do not be surprised if Evans has more than 80 assists in 2014.
