Today the Deutschland Adler U-19 played our first ever international game. We took on a well run and highly skilled Wilmot Wild of the OJCLL in an exhibition game at the Syl Apps Community Center in Paris, ON (home of the SouthWest Cyclops of CLax).
For me it was the first night with the team, some guys arrived as early as Monday, while other arrived yesterday where the team held our first practice at the Gaylord Powless Arena. We came off to a shaky start to the first quarter, going down by around 3 goals early on (score was loosely kept). Lukas Baildon scored the first ever goal for Deutschland Adler U-19, a snipe from the outside that went in top corner on the Wild netminder.
We had a very strong second half, it seemed like we got over some first half jitters and really came into our own. Head Coach Jamie Plunkett said “it was almost like two completely different teams from the first half to the second half”. We started to put up some goals and the offense started to really mesh well with each other.
The final score ended up being 15-6 Wilmot, but it was a good learning experience for this Deutschland Adler team.
Tomorrow night we take on the OLA Jr. B’s Oakville Buzz in another international exhibition at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre at 8:30 pm. After that we should be just about set to open up the World Lacrosse Challenge with a 1pm game against Israel at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in hopes of making it to the final round to contend for the Bowhunter Cup and bring it back to Deutschland!
