There was very little activity on the Wings front as far as trades as the deadline came and went yesterday. But today the Philadelphia Wings traded a 3rd round conditional pick in the 2013 entry draft to Buffalo for the playing rights of Goaltender Mikey Thompson. In 97 career games Thompson has a 11.53 GAA. This is a win/win situation for the Wings, If Thompson decides to play, he could be the back-up the Wings need to give Brandon a break as they push towards the playoffs. It’s more then obvious now that Head Coach/GM Mouradian is not happy with Crosswell. Thompson could be having the itch to come back and give it one last run as a back-up. If he decides not to play, the Wings don’t loose anything and the “conditional pick” will never be sent.
Seeing what Mikey did in last years Mann Cup against the Langley Thunder was something to see. Peterborough Lakers where down 2-0 in the best of seven and trailing in game three. In comes Thompson, not only did he lift the ‘Petes to a game three victory, but he led them to the Mann Cup winning the series 4-2 and also capturing the MVP of the Mann Cup as a back up. And with his past history in the NLL, I for one would like to see him wearing the red and black
Look for Brendan Mundorf to return by months end as he has participated in full contact at practice Mundorf will be a big help on the weak left side of the Wings offense.
For the right side… Matt Giles is available, as well as Dan Marohl from the Baltimore Bombers of the NALL.
Seems the next 29 hrs will be very interesting not just for the Wings, but for the rest of the league
Could back-up Frank Scigliano be on the radar? Roughnecks sign Nick Patterson, could it spell the end to Scigliano? If so, will Mouradian bring him in for a shot? Question is…will Calgary release Scigliano before the 5pm deadline tomorrow.
