WLA Power Rankings: Langley Remains on Top

As the WLA season winds down here are this week’s WLA power rankings.

1. Langley Thunder: No surprise that the Thunder are at the top of this list as they recently clinched first in the WLA. They have also won 6 of their last 8 games and have added more fire power with the additions of Mark Matthews and Garret Billings. There is no doubt the Thunder are the team to beat.

2. Victoria Shamrocks: The Shamrocks have been one of the most consistent teams in the league this season. The Shamrocks have secured second place in the WLA and have one of the deepest offenses in the league. The Shamrocks look to be the other contender for the WLA title and will likely meet the Thunder in the final.

3. Burnaby Lakers: The Lakers faltered early in the season but were able to turn it around and currently sit in third place. The Lakers have been able to win thanks to the strong play of Dane Stevens and Scott Jones. The Lakers will be a dark horse in the playoffs but they have proven they can beat the top teams in the league.

4. Coquitlam Adanacs: The Adanacs looked down and out after trading Dane Dobbie and Nick Rose but they have continued to battle. The Adanacs have won three straight games and have vaulted themselves into the final playoff spot. The Adanacs will need to continue their strong play and will have a key matchup against the Salmonbellies in their next game.

5. New Westminster Salmonbellies: The Salmonbellies have been up and down this season but they have continued to fight. The Salmonbellies have been fighting for their playoff lives and kept their hopes alive by knocking off the Langley Thunder. New Westminster will need to defeat Coquitlam in their next game if they hope to make the playoffs.

6. Maple Ridge Burrards: The Burrards have faltered recently dropping their last five games and have played their way out of the playoffs. Curtis Dickson has carried this team by scoring 103 points so far this season but he could not get them into the playoffs by himself. The Burrards will need to keep rebuilding and will be a dangerous team next season.

7. Nanaimo Timbermen: The Timbermen have had their back against the wall since the beginning of the season when they lost Scott Ranger and Cory Conway to free agency. The Timbermen have dropped five out of their last six games. The Timbermen have been a scrappy team all season and will try to end their season with a pair of wins.
