WLA Power Rankings: Shamrocks Remain on top

With another week of WLA action in the books here are this week’s Power Rankings:

1. Victoria Shamrocks: The Shamrocks suffered their first loss of the season this weekend to Maple Ridge but they are still the best team in the WLA. The Shamrocks notched a huge win over Langley 8-7 on Friday night. The Shamrocks though still have the best offense in the WLA which allows them to retain their number one ranking.

2. Maple Ridge Burrards: The Burrards are the hottest team in the WLA right now riding a three game win streak. The Burrards notched their biggest win of the season by beating the undefeated Shamrocks on Sunday Night. The Burrards have been led by the outstanding play of Curtis Dickson who has 38 points in just five games played. If the Burrards can keep their momentum going they could be a serious contender to win the WLA this year.

3.Langley Thunder: The Thunder drop a ranking this week due to their 8-7 loss to Victoria. While the Thunder are still one of the top teams in the league they need to make a statement by beating Victoria. The Thunder though still are a challenge for any team in the WLA and will most likely bounce back quickly from their first loss.

4. New Westminster Salmon Bellies: The Salmon Bellies made a statement this week by dominating the Coqutilam Adanacs 14-6. If the Salmon Bellies can build off of this win they could see themselves moving up in the rankings. The Salmon Bellies though need their offense to keep producing like they did against Coquitlam if they want to have a chance of winning the WLA championship this year.

5. Coquitlam Adanacs: Nobody would have thought the Adanacs would have struggled so much out of the gate going 0-4 before notching their first win of the season with a 18-7 thrashing of Nanaimo. Dane Dobbie has been phenomenal since returning from injury notching 21 points in three games while Jesse Guerin has contributed 20 points in five games. Once the Adanacs get Nick Rose Back expect them to make a leap up the standings.

6. Nanaimo Timbermen: Nanimo had a strong start to the season  by winning their first game against Burnaby and then having close games against Langley and New Westminster. The Timbermen though fell apart against Coqutilam as they were dominated 18-7. The Timbermen offense is struggling this season as they have no one to replace Scott Ranger or Cory Conway. The Timbermen need everyone on their team to pick up their game if they hope to move out of the bottom of the standings.

7. Burnaby Lakers: The Lakers have yet to win a game this season. The Lakers have struggled immensely this season due to Dan Lewis and Dane Stevens struggles. Stevens need to do more as 10 points in three games is not enough along with the rest of the Burnaby offense struggling they will have their work cut out to climb out of last place.
