MLL Three Stars: Week Six

After another exciting weekend of Major League Lacrosse, here are the three stars from the weekend that was.

3) Rob Pannell (New York) – 4 goals, 2 assists

Rob Pannell tallied a game-high six points to help New York continue its stellar year as the Lizards improve to 6-0 on the season. Pannell dished his two assists in the first half before scoring twice in the third and fourth quarters. Chesapeake outscored the Lizards 7-5 in the third quarter to pull within 12-11, but Pannell scored two of his squad’s three fourth-quarter goals including what proved to be the game-winner behind an unassisted tally with 7:20 remaining. The six points is tied for a season high as Pannell leads the Lizards and is tied for the Major League Lacrosse lead with 28 points on the season.

 

2) Marcus Holman (Ohio) – 6 goals

Marcus Hollman had a breakout day offensively, scoring six goals including four in the first half. Hollman opened the game’s scoring then scored with just 17 seconds remaining. He scored 7:46 into the second quarter then again with 11 seconds until halftime. Hollman added two more third-quarter goals to take a 12-6 lead. Charlotte scored four of the six fourth-quarter goals, but Ohio easily held on to the 14-10 victory. The Machine improved to 2-3 on the season while Charlotte fell to 1-4.

 

1) Will Manny (Boston) – 5 goals, 4 assists, GWG in overtime

Will Manny had a game to remember on Sunday, tallying nine points including the game-winning overtime goal in a thrilling 17-16 win over Rochester. Manny finished with five goals and four assists, having a hand in more than half of the Cannons’ season-high 17 points (one of Boston’s goals was a two-point goal). The wild game saw Rochester take a 12-9 lead after three quarters of play before the Cannons answered with a seven-goal fourth quarter. Boston actually scored seven of the first nine fourth-quarter goals to take a 16-14 lead, but the Rattlers responded with the final two goals to send the game into overtime. Manny’s big day was capped off just 58 seconds into the extra session. After some shots just wide of the net, Manny erased any doubt and sent Boston home winners. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and helped Boston improve to 2-3 on the season. Rochester fell to 3-3.
