One on One With: Zach Higgins

Zach Higgins is expected to assume the starting role for the Minnesota Swarm this season in net. he played often last season, splitting duty with Tyler Carlson, but now the undrafted netminder is looking to be the starter in just his season season.

Marisa: What are your thoughts on the upcoming season?

Zach: Zach:  I’m looking forward to the upcoming season. I think with how we have prepared at camp, along with the attitude everyone has brought, it has created a different atmosphere with the group we have, which in return has everyone excited for the challenges that lie ahead.

Marisa: What has it been like working with Brodie MacDonald in camp?

Zach: It has definitely been a great opportunity to work with Brodie. Camp was the first time I met Brodie, and after being able to talk with him and get to know him better I realized we approach the game in the same way, which helps to be aligned as strong partners. I’m excited at the opportunity to partner with him and backstop the team delivering wins.

Marisa: How do you feel the team has looked at camp?

Zach: I feel the team has looked very good at camp. You can see the guys putting the systems to work in the 3 exhibition games we have played and it has come with some success. The tempo has been at an extremely high level, and the team I feel has gelled well in the nine days we were together. Everyone feels pretty good about the season and challenge ahead.

Marisa: What do you expect your role to be long term?

Zach: When I think about my role in the long term, I would like to be part of the foundation being put in place with Minnesota. They have drafted and signed some pieces they feel will help them now while keeping the future in mind. I want to grow and develop with the rest of the team and help the franchise build a strong and successful team for many years.

Marisa: Going into your second full NLL season, what have you learned about playing in the league?

Zach: Going into my second season now, I feel I have come a long way from the first time I hit the floor in Philadelphia. I have built on my confidence, getting more comfortable with the great players in the league, and gelling more with my teammates. Camp was able to give me the opportunity to put into practice all the things I worked on over the summer and start the season strong and confident ready to face the season.
