Analyzing the Colorado Mammoth’s Announced Roster

The Colorado Mammoth they made a good amount of moves in the off season whether it was picking up free agents or key draft picks. The team’s biggest free agent pick up was one of their first in forward Alex Turner who was restricted FA by the Minnesota Swarm who did not match the deal that Colorado offered Turner. Turner was drafted by the San Jose Stealth  but played his last two seasons with the Edmonton Rush only playing in three games in 2014 scoring two goals one assist. He was then traded in July to the Swarm for a  third round pick in 2015. His deal was then matched by Colorado which is where he will be playing this year.

Eric Law who was a free agent after playing in two games for the Toronto Rock last year got brought back to his hometown NLL team this summer. Law will start off 2015 on the physically unable to perform list though. Colorado also made some key resigns in forward Sean Pollack  defenders Dan Ball and Ian Haweskbee who did not play at all in 2015.

The most important resigning was goalie Dillon Ward who had signed for five years after having  a great rookie season with the Mammoth. Dillon was also named All-World goalie in field after taking gold in Denver with team Canada.

One player who did not make the team that most people thought would was Colin Boucher. Colin had a great two summers with back to back Mann Cups with the Six Nation Chiefs and a Presidents Cup with St. Catherine’s in 2013. After signing for two years it looked like he would be a regular in the league after being on the practice roster for the Bandits and playing in the Canadian lacrosse league last winter.

Three draft picks also made the active roster both first rounders Eli McLaughlin and Robert Hope. Eli was picked right out of Junior A where he played most of his career with Delta Islanders before finishing   this summer as a Minto Cup runner up with Coquitlam. Hope comes  from a lacrosse crazy town in Petersborough  Ontario where he played his junior and now senior career. He was also a starting attack man at division 2 Pfeiffer down in North Carolina.
The third rookie to make the team was Alex Buque. Buque won a Minto Cup with the Whitby Warriors but went out west this past summer to play his last year of junior ball with New Westminster. Also in three years of college Alex was the starting goalie at MCLA Davenport College and NCAA Division 2 American International College.H aving both Dillon and Alex in net made it easy for Colorado to trade away goalie Tye Belanger to New England for a fourth round pick in the 2015 draft.  After all these off season moves and players that the Mammoth already have it is easy to say they are one of the top teams out in the Western Conference in 2015.
