Two days ago, Andrew Kirkaldy was traded from the Jacksonville Bullies to the New Jersey Rascals for Brett Moyer. I spoke with Kirkaldy last night about the deal, and here is what he had to say.
When did you hear of the trade?
I heard about the trade from Paul Stewart. We had conversations the night before on how we could make this trade legal, which would help the league set a legal standard and make sure it was done properly.
What are your thoughts on the league this year?
I am just excited that a league is going to happen. It was very, i don’t want to say stressful, but there was a sense of uncertainty that definitely made for some uncomfortable nights and thoughts. I think the league has a done a great job in persevering through the tough times and made sure that the right people who care to see the box game grow in America are in the higher positions and have ownership and previous box experience. Paul Stewart is one the nicest guys i have ever met. Very calm and collective and this league needs a guy like him to make sure everything is put into perspective.
What interaction have you had with the Rascals since or before the trade?
I know coach Fraser from the Boston lacrosse league he puts on here in Revere. I have played in that league for about 3 years and we have created a friendship over that time. Coach still is giving me advice every time i play with him on how i can get better. He is a great guy to play with and great guy to play for. Coach told me he got the job and asked me if i would like to play. It was a tough decision at first because Jacksonville is a great organization. Coach Duncan and Mr. Milo are great guys and i had a blast down at training camp. However, it was an opportunity to play closer to home and I feel very confident and comfortable around coach Fraser. He reminds of the coaching i received back home in Canada. Since the trade I have talked to coach Fraser a couple of times and we just talked about how excited we are to hit the floor! We both want to win and represent the New Jersey Rascals ownership and the town of Trenton with the class and pride.
