The Edmonton Rush sent a press release yesterday previewing their game against the Rochester Knighthawks, a rematch of the 2013 NLL Champions Cup. However, of note was this quote from team general manager and head coach Derek Keenan:
We lost Curtis Knight (off-season injury) and we’re not quite the same team without him so if there’s a chance to do something to fill that void we could consider it but we’re not going to jeopardize a lot and we’re not going to give up anything from our main core. We’ve got a lot of picks down the road so we could do a deal if something makes sense.
The press release goes on to name Garrett Billings, the hold out forward with the Toronto Rock. The Rock aren’t going to re-sign him, so it seems like he’ll be on the move at some point and there have been plenty of rumors. Yet the Rush have not been on the list of teams speculated the most.
He’s high priced but one of the best players in the game. The Rush might have to give up a top draft pick or a young player and they have been typically a “small market” team in the NLL so they might not be able to take on his contract.
Still, for the team to mention it themselves is pretty interesting.
