Net Impact: NLL Face Off Specialists

January 6, 2014

Winning face offs seems to be one of those skills that you either have or you don’t. Most guys don’t. Typically the responsibility for taking draws falls to one or two players on any given team. In the 2013 NLL season, 12 players took 100 or more face offs. Half of those players had a success rate between 40 percent and 60 percent, with two below 40 percent and four…

Being willing to do that requires a special kind of mindset; being good at it is even more of a challenge. To the casual lacrosse observer, it…

December 31, 2013

The Calgary Roughnecks are starting the 2014 season with righty forward Scott Ranger on the Physically Unable to Perform list and it looks like he might not be back until next year. According to Calgary head coach Curt Malawsky, Ranger suffered a broken jaw during the offseason and is on the shelf indefinitely. “He’s on a list to get the surgery done, so he’s basically on the injured reserve,” said…

Calgary Roughnecks Bye Week Check-In

When the NLL regular season starts on Saturday, Dec. 28, the Calgary Roughnecks will still be at home enjoying their Christmas holidays. There has been very little news around the Calgary camp since the announcement of the 20-man roster on Dec. 16. Word that TSN2 will be carrying three Roughnecks games this season has been the big story. Happily, the quiet time also means the Roughnecks have time to rest…

Calgary Roughnecks 2014 Season Preview

As the clock ticks down for the start of the 2014 NLL season, the Calgary Roughnecks are gearing up to try to get back to the Champion’s Cup, something they haven’t been able to do since 2009. Calgary has, however, finished the regular season at the top of the West Division standings for three years in a row, so the expectation is that they will retain their status as the…
