Coming to you from Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio will be the second match-up between the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Ohio Machine. In their first contest at the start of the season, the Bayhawks dominated 14-5 in a weather-shortened game.
Ohio is currently 1-8 on the season, most recently losing to Boston 13-10 in Bear Davis’ first game as head coach. They are lead by Steele Stanwick who has 21 points in his sophomore campaign. Joe Cummings follows closely with 17. Rookies Logan Schuss and Marcus Holman have entered the ranks as top players for their squad, combining for 25 points. Defensively, the Machine will be busy taking on a Bayhawks offense that can pick apart defensive units easily. Goaltender Brian Phipps will have to stand on his head to keep Ohio in this game.
Chesapeake has been dominant again thus far in 2013. Standing in third place with a 5-4 record coming off a huge 17-10 win against the Hamilton Nationals. Drew Westervelt holds the reigns of the Bayhawk offense, picking up 27 points in eight games. Fellow attackman Ben Rubeor has recorded 24 of his own. Kyle Dixon leads the midfield with 24 as well. Matt Mackrides will give the Ohio defense headaches running by them with his speed and will add on to his 15 goals and six assists. Veteran John Grant Jr. is still making noise with 15 goals and four assists and Ben Hunt coming off a hat-trick performance will be right there with them. Going up against the Bayhawk defense is no easy task. In order to get to the net, the Ohio offense will first have to go through the gauntlet of long poles Brian Spallina, Nicky Polanco, Barney Ehrman, and Jesse Bernhardt. Matt Abbott will be a factor in both offense and defense with his ability to clear the ball and play two-way lacrosse. Kip Turner should be excellent, as always, but will have to watch out for the young guns and highflying Chazz Woodson.
As a treat, the Bernhardt brothers will be doing battle with one another. Jesse is an LSM for Chesapeake and Jake plays midfield with Ohio. They have played side by side since their days as high school players in Florida and will be on opposite ends for the first time this Saturday.
This will be a hard fought game by both sides, especially between the Bernhardt brothers. Fans will get to see top tier talent and unimaginable goals scored. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
