The Six Nations Chiefs (5-0) drew first blood on Tuesday night after winning the first game of the MSL Final 12-7 over the Brooklin Redmen (4-4).
Brooklin scraped by the Peterborough Lakers (3-4) with a 13-8 game seven victory on Sunday night to advance to the MSL Final. It was the first time Peterborough has not made it to the MSL Final in over ten years and the first time Brooklin has beat Peterborough in playoff series since 2002.
Six Nations easily beat the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks (0-4) in four games in the first round of playoffs and had more than seven days rest before game one of the MSL Final.
The Chiefs won the regular season series 2-1-1 over Brooklin, however this series could be a short one if Six Nations are able to continue their strong play as they have only lost three games in 2013.
Brooklin’s Shawn Williams and goaltender Zack Higgins will most likely be the difference makers in this series if Brooklin hopes to advance to the Mann Cup. Williams leads all scorers with 35 points (10G, 25A) in eight games. Higgins was arguably the MVP of the Peterborough –Brooklin series and stole game six and seven. He will need to be consistent for Brooklin to make a playoff run.
