The past few days have been jammed packed with lots of lacrosse. Friday was the start of our tournament play as we faced off against the division favorites the Netherlands. We came out strong in the first half, but ended up falling short by the end of the match. Our next two opponents were the Italians and the Norwegians.
In both those games we showed flashes of great lacrosse, but were unable to put together a full 80 mins. Once the division play had ended we finished with a record of 0-3. This matched us up against Argentina from the Plum division who also ended up going 0-3.
We favoured this crossover matchup as we had already played against the Argentinians previously in a scrimmage and knew that as long as we made the proper adjustments that we could win this time. It was a close, hard fought battle between both teams, but we were able to come out ahead winning 9-7 and landing Team China there first ever victory in the Lacrosse World Championships. Everyone on the team played exceptionally well, with 4 different players scoring to help lead us to victory.
Ye Huabao (Warburg) was able to score his first goal of the tournament and the first of the Chinese natives. We face off tommorow against team Thailand a team we have developed a bit of a rivalry with after our encounters at last summer ASPAC tournament in Beijing.
At the tournament we were able to edge out Thailand 10-6 in round robin play, only to fall to them 11-9 in the broze medal game, spoiling our chances at capturing a medal at home.
