Crawford Blog: Swarm Lose in Buffalo

Game Four

This weekends game is really exciting for me. We are playing in Buffalo which mean’s it is close enough to home that i can drive to the game. I am bringing my fiancé and my new baby to the game. This will be his first ever lacrosse game. We pack up the car with all the necessary baby accessories to be staying at a hotel for the weekend (and my lacrosse stuff). I’m excited for him to come to his first lacrosse game but also excited for the team to meet him for the first time as well.

Unfortunately, right when we leave a snow storm starts. The drive in good weather is about 6-6.5 hrs. This trip took us about 7.5 hours in the snow. We get there about an hour before the rest of the team which gives us some time to settle in and get the room set up to be baby friendly.

Once everyone finally gets in, we have our usual team meeting. We touch on last weeks game and any corrections we feel we need to make. We also touch on our game plan for buffalo.

Game Day

Playing in Buffalo is a lot of fun for all the guys on the east coast. This is a chance for our families and friends to be able to come to the game and watch us play. Since I brought my fiancé and my baby boy it was a great chance for some of my family to see Dawson as well.

Shoot around is much the same this morning, but our team lunch was one of the worst experience of the year so far. There was a handful of us who ended up waiting about 2 hrs to get our food (and the orders were still incorrect) but at this point I think we all were fine with just taking anything before our stomachs just starting eating themselves.

I was a little worried that my pre game nap would be non existent with the baby in the room, but we are super blessed and have a super happy and well sleeping baby. I was able to lay down with him and get a good 2.5 hrs before the game.

Game Time

The very beginning of the game went alright with us exchanging a couple goals. After our first 3 goals we ended up much like in Edmonton with Buffalo continuously scoring and our offence not being able to get anything past Anthony Cosmo or the Buffalo defence. We went in to half down 11-3 and even though this was familiar territory it is not a place any team wants to be at half time. Coaches and players said what they needed to say during the half and we were ready to come out with our hard hats on for the 3rd quarter.

In the 3rd Buffalo was able to score first, but we as an offence had a number of great chances and offensive rebounds but still couldn’t find the back of the net. We finally got a break in transition and that was the fire we needed to start trying to fight back.

Our offence started scoring in bunches and answering every time buffalo scored. Unfortunately, we had two huge goals called back for crease violations which would have put us within 2 goals. We could’t seem to get any closer than a 3 goal deficit. Although we lost the game we really showed character and a never quit work ethic.

We need to use the momentum we built in that second half and use if for a full 4 quarters against Rochester in our next game.
