The Calgary Roughnecks made sure their top scorer will be around for the long haul when they announced earlier this month that Dane Dobbie had been signed to a four-year contract.
Dobbie led the NLL in goals in 2014 with 51, a career high and only the 14th time anyone in league history has scored 51 or more. His 90 points were also a career high and second best on the Roughnecks behind Shawn Evans’ 105.
At age 27, Dobbie is right in the prime of his career and should remain productive throughout this new contract. That’s very good news considering that the 5’8″ lefty has already topped the 40-goal mark three times and seems to be getting better and better all the time.
In spite being one of the smaller players on the Roughnecks, Dobbie is absolutely fearless when attacking the net, never hesitating to step into harm’s way to make a play and rarely passing up on a chance to chirp his opponents when they fail to stop him from scoring. He never gives less than his best effort and the team seems to feed on that energy and determination.
Having Dobbie locked in for the next four years means Calgary has another one of the key pieces of their roster in place for the long term. Goalie Mike Poulin, forward Jeff Shattler and transition Geoff Snider, among others, are players who are signed through the 2016 season, giving the Riggers a core group who are familiar with each other, playing at an extremely high level and hungry to get back to the Champion’s Cup.
